Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and anchor and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up living in New York City, Mitchell earned a BA in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). After two years, she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. She began to cover the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent by 1988. She was appointed as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell was a panelist for the TV show Meet the Press and also hosted the program. She was part of the panel during 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married Alan Greenspan a former chairman the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was presented with the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contributions to protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure as president from 1981-1988. Her reporting included a number of significant stories, including the Iran-contra scandal, the tax reform and the budget, as well as the arms control. She traveled widely along with the president Reagan for summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
